The 2019 Entelect Challenge University Cup Winners Announced
Worms, this years’ Entelect Challenge finals are almost upon us. The grand finale will yet again take place at Comic Con Africa (@AfricaComicCon). Over 60 000 people are expected to attend, so if you plan on making your way through on the 21st of September, come find us on the centre stage in Hall 5 at the Gallagher Convention Centre at 11am!
“Each year we aim to build the Challenge around a popular game theme, and this year’s theme was Worms,” says Rishal Hurbans, Team Lead of the Entelect Challenge. “The idea behind the chosen theme was not just to make it appealing to those of us who love gaming, but to also choose a game with rules that are simple, so that anyone with a basic understanding of programming can enter.”
Following the success of the main Entelect Challenge event, Entelect introduced the Entelect Challenge University Cup in 2018 and held it for the second time this year. The University Cup is a one-day hackathon where student teams from various universities around the country are challenged to solve a coding problem. The aim of the University Cup was to give our future technology leaders a chance to flex their brain muscles, and participate in something fun and rewarding.
We are proud to announce the winners of the 2019 University Cup: the University of Cape Town’s Andrew McKracken, Bronson Rudner and Emile Tredoux from team The Enigmatic Bees of Anarchy! Titanium Purple Tractors also from the University of Cape Town came in at second place and team from Stellenbosch University came in at third.
Entelect will continue to run the annual University Cup to not only bring different universities and students together, but also to demystify the world of coding and AI. “We want as many students as possible to enter this competition, and help them to discover a whole new world of machine learning and artificial intelligence,” says Bianca McFadyen, Marketing Manager at Entelect.
The challenge is not only aimed at certain groups of students. It is designed for anyone with a basic level of programming who is interested in the world of machine learning and the future of software.
